Diplomatic Efforts Aimed to Resolve Cross-Border Security and Pastoralist Disputes
High-level talks between Kenya and Uganda were held to address an unresolved dispute arising from the 2022 Moroto District incident, which led to the incarceration of Turkana herdsmen in Uganda. The meeting built on earlier presidential-level engagements between the two heads of state and focused on advancing diplomatic resolution, justice and compensation for affected families. The Ugandan leadership acknowledged Kenya’s efforts, including acceptance of the Okukaraba blood settlement framework and commitment to compensation, while both sides reaffirmed their dedication to the bilateral MoU and Resource Sharing Agreement supporting peaceful coexistence among pastoralist communities in the Ateker region.
