At State House, Nairobi, the Principal Secretary @dr_karugu joined H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto as he hosted, in his capacity as Co-Chair of the Joint EAC-SADC Summit on the DRC Peace Process, his SADC counterpart, H.E. Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, for a high-level briefing meeting with the Panel of Facilitators for the DRC Peace Process.

The meeting marked a significant step towards consolidating peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo by adopting a unified regional approach.

Among the key resolutions was the immediate merger of EAC, SADC, and AU peace structures into a single, harmonized mechanism comprising the AU Mediator and the EAC-SADC Panel of Facilitators, reporting jointly to the African Union and the Joint Summit.

The leaders also called for urgent resource mobilization for peacebuilding and humanitarian support, and emphasized the need for all ongoing initiatives to align with the African-led process.

The meeting reaffirmed the region’s commitment to a coordinated, homegrown solution to the conflict in the DRC - one anchored in political will, unity, and collective responsibility.
