Leaders Unite in Turkana to Advance Peace Through Ateker Council Initiative
For decades, the Ateker region spanning Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia has faced recurring insecurity driven by unresolved border issues, cattle rustling, and competition over scarce resources, limiting opportunities for meaningful economic development. Today, Honourable Beatrice Askul Moe graced the official launch and operationalization of the Kenya Chapter of the Ateker Leaders Council, marking a significant milestone and reaffirming the Government of Kenya’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and harmonious coexistence among border communities. The event was attended by key leaders including Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo, Special Envoy for Peace in the Ateker Region Hon. John Munyes, Turkana Governor H.E. Jeremiah Lomorukai, Senator James Lomenen, and several Members of Parliament from Turkana and Teso regions.
